On Wednesday 8th November. Elm Class spent the day at Ridgeway School.
In the morning with several other local schools, we attended a session with author Jennifer Bell as part of the Swindon Youth Festival of Literature.
Jennifer told up how she went from being uninterested in reading to being really keen. She emphasised how it's important to find a book about something that interests and excites you, and that there are stories about just about anything you can imagine.
She explained how she gets ideas for her characters, by thinking about what they have in their rucksacs and uses timelines to plot ideas for stories set in the future with technologies that we might not even be able to imagine now.
In the afternoon, we stayed at Ridgeway to find out a bit about life at secondary school. We had D&T session designing Christmas Cards and then a languages lesson.
Finally we had a look around some of the other parts of the school.
